The bike at present is a standard xv1600 so the first step is to strip the bike totally so as to install the lowering kit, though described as a simple task by BARON it isn't quite as straight forward as you would wish. The easiest way i found was to remove all wheels and complete exhaust system, to make access to securing bolts much easier. Once the rear shocker is removed from its housing the fun begins. Without the aid of a press ordinary spring tensioners are at least a scary experience when trying to put in place a 1000lb spring after removing the standard one, though it does look impressive once in place (see diagram 5)

Image: now the fun begins...

The front although is much easier meerly removing the top nut and replacing the spring, etc. taking only a few minutes each one. I then proceeded to flat the aluminium casings of the lower part of the forks with 400 grade paper and the headlight case with 1200 grade so as to key the primer before the colour change.

Taking the forks and painting them was a brave step to take but in my opinion well worth the risk. The headlight rear casing was the obvious choice once i saw the finished results on the forks.

Feeding the electrics through the bar has made a neat and tidy job of it.

Image: going for the old skool "minus front fender look"

Leaving off the front fender was'nt part of the origional plan but looked good when the bike was being put back together so i stuck with it for now...

The painted air filter cover is my favourite feature on the bike...
